Need assist with a repair

My wife has a 1942 Oyster Perpetual that is losing 15 minutes a day. I sent it in to Rolex and they promptly sent it back indicating they have no parts to fix it.

Anyone have any ideas as to what I can do now?

Rolex will not work on a watch that old. I am surprised they did not mention that before you sent it to them. Somewhere around 30 years or older they just do not want to deal with them.

There are qualified independent watchmakers who can and will fix your watch. Some can be found right here on TRF. Some parts are available for older watches, but many are not. Sometimes a knowledgeable watchmaker can find a workable part from a newer or different movement. Sometimes parts have to be hand made.

Given enough time and money, there are very few watches that can't be repaired.

You might call some of the independent RSC's around and see if they will tackle the job..

The San Fransisce shop comes to mind but there is one in the Chicago area too.. check HowardFrum.com

I know of one in Lousiana. It is a mater of whether to part can be found or made.

When I was young I knew a old clock and watch repair man who had the tools to make a new part for any watch or clock, he was one of the best, he was so good he could figure the number of tooth and pinion on a wheel.

I was into repairing clocks as a hobby, before my car accident (a damaged alnur nerve). I must have 50 real old clocks in the house some made about the 1700's. I still pick up old clocks when I see one I cannot live without.

Try the RSC in SFO as Larry advised.

415-982-9830 Look for Giovanni

Although they are an RSC, they are independently owned so might be able to help you where Dallas and NYC can get "all corporate" on you.

Tell Giovanni TRF sent you
