If Rolex does the repair, don't they usually want to replace the crown, stem and the tube? For an older watch that sounds like cheap insurance.

I believe that even if the watch was serviced recently a winding stem can always snap , of course had it been serviced by RSC you'd have a year warranty on it . It's was one of those things that happen , ok it's a real bummer but what can you do . There is certainly no doubt that it is worth spending the money for repair on that watch .
I'm sure it will be OK on the end of the day .
Ahh, a grand, a grand, not a grant...No charge for the ESL lesson..

As I said before Tristan, I don't know anyone to service it here locally and I would prefer to be safe rather that sorry....

And this is why I think that after about 15 turns the damn crown and stem ended up in my hand....Sorry, better to spend a bit more and have the warranty and knowledge that this won't happen again and if it does Rolex will pickup the tab....

It doesn't look like it broke off, just fell out. I can't remember if on a Rolex it is held in with a locking pin or a screw? Either way it should be a 5 minute fix if nothing else is going on.

I agree, the stem doesn't look broken. Perhaps the screw that holds it in has backed out or failed?

Huh??? How can you make this type of comment? It snapped off plain as day, any number of things could have happened once this piece snapped off, little bits of metal shaving cold have ended up in the movement, and this if not taken care of will cause irreparable damage. We spend so much money on this hobby and I wonder why some people would want to cut corners and try to save money on service. Hell, maybe I should just open it up and try to fix it myself Not!! This is a 35 year old timepiece and I bought it with the though of passing it down to my grandchildren in another 35 years, for that to happen I need to take care of it. Please someone stop me if I'm not making sense.....
