Titanium Submariner & Deepsea?

Why doesn't Rolex come out with a titanium line of dive watches? Would there be a market for them (i.e. Panerai)? I know 904L has excellent corrosion resistance, but can't argue with the comfort of less weight on the wrist (especially with the deepsea).

Well you do have a Titanium case back on the DSSD.

Would they have to invest in a completely new set of machinery to handle the new metal option?

I for one don't like titanium, feels very odd on the wrist. I seriously doubt Rolex would change to titanium, they use the 904L steel as a unique selling point - you can get titanium watches from other brands, but only Rolex uses 904L

for some reason, i can't imagine a rolex on titanium.. Oddly too, if i do plan to get a seamaster, i'm eyeing the titanium one which they have stopped producing.. Weird!

Why doesn't Rolex come out with digital watches?

Answer: cause that's not what they do? And only they know why they do what they do.

My dad has a Ti SMP Americas Cup and its a very nice watch. Not sure if Im that keen on the very dull grey of the metal. Its really light for such a chunky watch though!!

X2

I agree, I sold my Oris TT1 diver cause it felt odd to have a watch that was that big and bulky weigh so little, it was kind of creepy actually. I'll take the extra weight of SS, I want to know its there.

Titanium does not hold up well for watch that you will wear often , I had a titanium watch as a daily wearer. It looked very old after only a short time on the wrist , so I retired it .

Probably the reason why Rolex don't do a FULL CERAMIC like RADO do!!

Titanium feels cheap because of its lighter weight. Not my cup of tea.

I tried on a limited edition Omega Speedy made from titanium and it was so light that it felt super cheap ans had no real substance to it. I had to keep looking to make sure it was still on my wrist it was so light. That model was even a larger than normal case!

I've heard that the machinery, or at least the cutting bits, will need to be different. Cost is a little higher to work with titanium too.

It's to help cope with the extreme pressures, it allows the case back to flex a little

My biggest beef with titanium is its appearance. That dull gray look doesn't work for me. I'll take the luster of high grade Rolex stainless any day.

I dunno, I have a Citizen titanium chrono that I wore for over 10 yrs, and it still looks like nearly brand new. I think titanium holds up very well actually.
