PLEASE READ THIS before you buy either gmt 2c or SS sub (my 2cent comparison)

I tell ya guys, i love my TT gmt2c and i just got a SS sub (i cant remember the numbers but it) but its the most recent model before the change to "supercase". I have to say i REALLY didnt know how different these 2 watches are. (you guys said so! LOL) The sub is much lighter than the gmt2c, sometimes the sub feels more comfortable although it doesnt feel as "substantial". a lot less bling (good) not as thick, and the clasp is very tinny...kinda similar to my date and date just. The gmt2 feels more polished like a work of art and the sub feels like a workhorse. I absolutely LOVE each one for what it is and can now REALLY appreciate the difference for the different utilities. I was in atlanta waiting on a conference call from los angeles and trying to buy stocks in South Africa 3 wks ago and finally got a chance to "use" that gmt. it was pure pleasure to finally use the watch for the purpose that it was desigend for. Pure bliss! And the sub... i havent gone diving with it yet but i hit the mayan rivera in 2 weeks and i planned 2 days of diving but i can really see how this watch would be better in that salty stuff than my gmt. So if you want a good christmas present for yourself or someone else go to your AD and try on both of these watches and decide BEFORE you buy either one. Really examine what you want to use them for. Then come here and buy them so you can save a boatload of money. Merry Christmas!!

I did kinda the opposite, TT sub first and then SS GMTIIc and I totally agree that both are different enough to justify "needing" both. I love both for different reasons. Congrats on your new sub, wear in good health, and have fun on your vacation!

I too have and enjoy both. I chose each for its function and I have not been disappointed. You wrote a good summary of the differences.

I got a Sub, but now I've been really leaning towards trading it in for a GMT or a GMT II-C, either one is fine. The function just suits me better. The Sub though, is still an awesome everyday watch.

There are some people who think the two watches are too similar in appearance to justify owning both. Me, I think people tend to over-analyse things!

Both are great watches and it makes absolute sense to have both if you can afford them!!

Can't decide Sub or GMT?

i own an all gold President and sometime more sporty/casual.

I'm having a hard time deciding whether to buy the new SS GMT II or the SS Submariner. I

As mentioned in the posts above the GMT is more 'bling', a little thicker a little heavier.

Originally I was going to buy the Submariner but then after going to the local AD I tried both on, at first liked the Sub only then the GMT really started to grow on me.

Which one to buy, I've don't recall ever being so 50 - 50 on a decision :)

I like the new GMT in some ways, it's the latest and greatest, the weight and it being more busy grew on me the more I compared them. Then the Sub, the great Rolex classic, but it's likely it won't be the latest and greatest once they introduce a new model in 2010.

What to do ?? Which one to you own, and what made you choose it?

Thank you.

I think it's the perfect choice to get a TT GMT IIC (shiny, classy, looks expensive) and a SS Sub (understated, iconic, versatile, sporty). I got the same impression when trying these pieces: the GMT IIC has a more solid feel due to the improved bracelet and clasp, but the Sub is a lot less sparkly. To me the perfect two-piece Rolex collection would be the TT GMT IIC and the SS Sub Ceramic -- as long as it won't have PCL of course.

I also own both an feel that I couldn't do without them. Both have a specific function and feel. If you like wearing a Rolex because it makes you feel good (I do), having the right one for the mood/occasion just sweetens the experience.

I have had a SS Date sub(stolen) and the GMT in TT , and both are superb watches. Unless you want to do lots of diving, i think the GMT is a better allround watch.

They are both very useful for their purposes. Just weigh your wallets if you decide to go for both...:-)
