Purchasing most safest way

Good morning everyone here. I am in the process of purchasing a new watch from someone online here. I personally don't know the guy and have never purchased a watch online before so I'm trying to see what others here do before they make a purchase from someone. I'm also curious what the best and safest way is to go about this?? Are there specific things you ask for??

Jon,
Buy from someone that has bought/sold with some of the other members here before. Ask questions. How long have they been a member? How many posts? Good pictures? Check the "Buyers/Sellers Who's Who" section. If ANYTHING feels amiss, walk away.

Hi Jon, I have had 4 flawless transactions with the online forum sellers - my advice:

• agree w/ above posts
• I become most comfortable when the seller has transactions with other forum members I know and or follow
• get the sellers home and work phone number and addresses (if possible)
• never deal w/ someone only using a cell # and gmail address who wont give you additional info
• call references - email is OK - but that can be faked
  • if you are wiring money to a bank - you can call the bank and ask questions about the account holder - (how long a customer)
  • in the end - you finally get to a point where there is no anxiety in the purchase - if you can't get to that point/feeling - dont do it - remember - the hunt can be more fun than the purchase!

I always buy from an AD. Therefore, I am not of much help.

I purchased from a forum member, but I took the safest way, given that he didn't have a significant history of sales. Since he was local to me, we met at a watchmaker who had agreed to open the watch. The watchmaker verified the authenticity of the movement, I inspected the paperwork (and had gotten the name and address of the seller). I got the watch, the seller got cash, and we all went home happy.

newbie here. How do you find a qualified watchmaker to verify your Rolex? Has anyone tried to have the transaction in an AD's store and have them authorized it on the spot? Of course I understand some compensation will need to be paid. Thanks,

Several members done that in the past....nothing wrong with a face to face with a seller at an AD.

I was in the same boat as you a few weeks back. I looked at ebay and some of the sellers there and then I happened across TRF, registered and hung out for a bit and then started asking questions. Great group of very knowledgeable people here. To cut to the chase I purchased from DavidSW (here at TRF) a 16610LV (Sub with green insert) and I purchased a black insert from Steve Mulholand, again from here on TRF. Both of these fine gentleman have earned stellar reputations and the only way to do that is to simply deliver what you ask. That means genuine/authentic Rolex watches or parts/accessories at a fair value. There are several others who like David and Steve have wonderful reputations. Put their names out there and you will get tremendous feedback on them and others. They have done countless transactions with many, many, TRF members here and speaking only for myself I could not be more pleased. Good luck.

Start by posting a query in the Buyers/Sellers Who's Who forum. Find out what other TRF members have to say from personal experience with the seller.

There are several quality sellers here on TRF...Just do your homework and you'll be fine.

1) Choose the right seller - research his rep on this forum. Ask him for referrences and PM those referrences.
2) Pay by Paypal - they can hold funds if a deal goes sour.
3) Ask for a tracking number - most sellers will get you your watch by 10am the very next day.
4) Enjoy watch - it's what it's all about
5) Post good feedback - TRF sellers live off their good rep!
6) Post pics - in TRF it's "Pics or it didn't happen!"

Not sure if you've noticed or not but there's a "Buyers/Sellers" section on TRF that lets you know who folks are happy with. There are a number of trustworthy people to deal with here. Check it out!

I agree 100% with Paul's post.I have only been on TRF for a month and have purchased two watches from David SW.
I think you would have to go to the Rolex factory to find anyone who knows more about Rolex watches than the people on this site.
If these guy's give a recomendation you can take it to the bank.
That's my 2 cent's
