Mike Horn and the Arktos
Mike Horn is the first ever human to solo navigate from Siberia to the North Pole in Canada, then on to Alaska... 20,000 km on foot, XC skis and kayak. While on his journey, strapped to the outside of his parka was a special edition Panerai made for him called Arktos. Horn says it's the only piece of equipment he took with him that didn't break down.
Check out the website of this gutsy guy. http://www.mikehorn.com/ Panerai make 500 Arktos a year and they go for around US$7,000. Last edited by Atomic; 1 October 2005 at 04:24 AM.. |

Now...that's a Panny I would love, but on a solid matching SS bracelet.
What's the diameter size on that baby, Johnny?

Well this brute is 44mm not including the crown and is 48mm lug to lug. It's also 18mm thick. Check out the engraved case-back.

Thanks, Johnny, very impressive. Size is still 1.5 mm less than the PO....but I guess the comparison ends there!!

Yeah but that's 44mm without counting the crown guard, which is easily an extra 5mm.
Besides which, in only a matter of seconds, Arktos could snap Ommie's mainspring and feed him to Yammie for breakfast. Arktos has to be one of the toughest watches around. Last edited by Atomic; 1 October 2005 at 04:32 AM.. |

That's a seriously tough looking watch, John! I really like the engraved caseback work - looks well done.
