GMTII in for service - what to expect?

Hey Everyone,

Yesterday I took my original GMTII (not ceramic) into my AD to have it serviced. I purchased the watch in 2006, and figured it was about time for a servicing anyway. I plan to sell the watch when it comes back, but I'm curious about how much I should expect to pay for the servicing itself?

Aside from daily wear and tear, that watch performs beautifully, so I doubt anything would need to be replaced. The only thing that concerns me is that I nicked the casing noticeably when changing the bezel last summer. Photo attached.

Anyone know what the average cost for a servicing is? For what it's worth, I'm in Amsterdam and the cost will be in €

Thanks in advance!

I don't know what the cost will be, it may vary a little but when you get the watch back, it will look like new. I had deep scratches in mine and could not believe how nice it looked after the service!

It will come back looking like new. In fact, you may NOT want to sell it after service !

That nick isn't too bad. They will file it down with emory paper, and then high polish that area, followed by a satin finish on the top of the lug. No biggie.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm pretty set on selling it, as I have the GMTIIc as well, which I personally prefer more. I'll get the estimate from my AD within 2 weeks, and then it will go to Rolex for a full servicing. Any idea what a good price would be to sell it at when it returns?

Also, is there a way to tell which movement is inside the watch from it's serial #? I read that towards the end of the GMTII production, some of the older watches got the newer movement found in the GMTIIc. I would imagine this makes the watch worth more, no?

Thanks!
