The Low Key Rolex of All Time

I never hear very much about the Rolex Oysterdate manual wind 6694, I think? What are your opinions on this model? Share some pics if you have some. Let me know about pricing?

Great picture, Ohlins. My mother has a watch that was gifted her when she turned 16... it also has the precision above the 6... I'll check to see if it's a manual wind when I next see her. She wears it occasionally when we have cocktails. I think she mentioned that Rolex no longer mfgs the parts for it... so it's not her choice for daily wear.

Agree Rusi the great Rolex classics hand wound wonders that will never die Myself prefer a hand-wound movement "it sort of lives" because you actively want it to run .By winding you sort of breathe life into it, and you have to do it on purpose. I think that's an entirely different attitude toward a watch than merely picking it up and find it working. And thus knowing that it will continue to run without additional intervention by yourself. And IMHO a manual wind makes you just part of the soul of the watch, and myself like having to wind it each day,to keep its tiny heart beating.

When I pick up one of my hand-winds and wind it, the whole process, the act of winding, just seems to have a sense of history and tradition to it. This makes hand winds special to me. I can imagine my grandfather, and his father, and his father's father performing the same daily ritual. It's a connection to the past good old time days horology speaking.

A automatic movement runs just because of movement, and simple gravity, and the fact that you are not dead and still, and are still moving alive and kicking to speak.Or as long as the electric winder doesn't stop or burn out. In that sense now especially on a winder, I find automatic movements sometimes as "soul-less" as the heretic quartz, when compared to a true hand-wound movement. One might argue that an automatic movement on a winder is not so much "alive" as permanently undergoing gentle resuscitation.

no prob with parts as the rsc (at least here in singapore) are still servicing them.....of cos the inventory will not last forever....:)

These are regarded as the Rolex "workhorses", regarding their movements.

Great watch that will last longer than YOU!
