What's the diffence between the two? Except for the bezle color.

Well, you can't get a two tone or gold explorer II where as they make gold GMT II.

They share the same movement otherwise.

The 4th hand on the GMT can be independently set to show a second time zone and the 4th hand on the Explorer II is a 24 hour hand to show whether it is am or pm and is set automatically when you set the normal time.

Hi Gambit, welcome!

If you're talking about vintage pieces Mark is correct. Dual timezone capability with the GMT, and 24hr. time with the 1655.

If you mean modern pieces, both the GMT II and EXP II use the same 3185 movement. The movement in addition to being COSC certified has the capability of displaying multiple time zones via the jump hour feature. This feature also allows the date to be a semi-quick set type working off the revolutions of the 12 hr. hand (twice around the dial to advance the date.)

The bezel on the GMT is bi-directional and can be changed in several color combinations. The bezel of the EXP II is fixed.
The GMT II is a black dial whereas the EXP II can be had with either black or white dials.
I think the GMT II has a more "aggressive" look because of the coin edge bezel as opposed to the smooth slope of the EXP II.

Both are excellent pieces and are equally rugged.

Physically the watches are the same size. The only difference is that the Explorer II carries a low profile as mentioned by "mike" it lacks the coin edge bezel. The bezel of the Explorer II also lacks the thickness of the GMT II’s, so it fits under a cuff nicely however, for better or worse it does not appear to be as beefy.

i am always between them myself... great watches both of them... however my black bezel explorer gets the least wrist time... i'm thikning of changing it to white and selling one of the two white faced explorers after that...

Another difference is the EXP II is 39mm across and the GMT II is 40mm. I really don't think it's noticeable on the wrist though.
