Hey JJ,

I just wanted to let you know that I am with you on the job loss. I was layed off 3.5 weeks ago after 6 years with the same pharmaceutical company.

Good luck and keep your head up. I ordered my GMT right before the layoff.

Thanks all you guys for the tremendous support.

David, some excellent information there....I can fully relate with that, so I can also understand why you guys would be hesitant to buy from me. Fair enough!! I guess I would be apprehensive too if I were living in the USA.

BTW, I did advertise my watch on another forum, but got the same lack of response....probably for the same reasons cited by David.

No worries, I'll see how it goes. If I can find some work soon enough, I'll hang on to this baby 'cause I really love it.

Just wish me luck, guys!!

Thanks once again for all the sentiments.

JJ

Hi Patrick,

Good luck to you too, my friend. Hope you find something real soon.

US Customs? My DOXA got caught - Fedex billed me $48 for the Customs fee. This was a direct purchase from the mfg. & shipped from Switzerland.
My Ball Alligator (NIB from AD) came from Kuala Lampur via Fedex - no customs. My Marinemaster (NIB from AD) came from Japan via EMS - no customs. Go figure.
I know it hurts to sell your Sub. It'd tear my heart out to do the same with my 5512. Our kindest thoughts are with you, as always.
Thanks for the kind words - JJ

I know that you are not a fan of Ebay, JJ.

What about listing it on ebay NZ and insist on a buyer collects with cash?

If you include a link to TRF for potential buyers this will show potential buyers how genuine the watch and seller are.

Excellent idea, Paul. I have had nothing but success with eBay. I've been a member since December of 1999 and love it!

Yes, Allan

With a sensible reserve and the wind blowing in the right direction JJ may get a good price from a good buyer.

It's a celebrity watch, after all.

Indeed it is, Paul. Owned by the finest (and probably ONLY) BKL in all of New Zealand!!! And undoubtedly the most-photographed Sub this side of his TT Blue!!!

I'm not sure how this would work but once you have collected the money why couldn't you enclose a letter with the watch, "Hi Bill, I just want to say thank you to my best friend of 30 years, I don't know what I would have done with out you being there for me! Please take this watch, and don't argue, it is my gift to you for everything you've done, Love JJ" How can they collect duty on a gift? Just an idea. Bill

Yeah, there's an idea, guys. What if I sent it as a GIFT to someone? Would US Customs still confiscate it?

Don't know about US, but even a gift coming to Canada is subject to our lovely tax system.

BTW, best of luck to the two of you on crossing the next bridge on your journey.
I remember , about 20 years ago, I was let go from one place. The next day I bought season tickets for our local NHL team. WIfe thought I was absolutely crazy. I said, life will keep going on. Now, I have a little more motivation to move forward.
I have not looked back since.

Thank you everyone for the support. It was time I followed my goal of medical device sales anyway.

E-bay has done me very nicely in the past. I sold no less than 6 watches on there. All were for the money I was looking for (within reason), and the payments were quick and easy.

Good luck on the sale, and if this goes for another month for me, A GMT II and a SS Datejust will be joining this thread. But I'm keeping my sub....I just can't bear that yet.

Hi,

I'm new to your forum and have a question. If you end up buying a Rolex in the list $6,500. range from an AD such as Ben Bridge, what kind of discount should you expect in the end? Appreciate any help and advice you can give.

I own a business in the USA, we had to stop shipping to Canada because FedEx is such a cluster f*ck. If I ship a 30 dollar item weighing in anywhere from 2-3 lbs to Canada as the seller: It costs about 15 dollars freight to get it to Canada. I then get a bill for anywhere from 10-15 dollars from customs because FedEx doesn't guarantee collection of duties from the buyer, the burden is placed on the seller to pay them.
