How Did He Do It?????

expert watchmakers..... I like this guys blog even though it is faily inactive. However this restoration project he did has always had me perplexed as to how this was fixed.......

It's good to remember, that a nick like that is tiny - the macro mode makes it look 10x worse than it actually is. Some carefully chosen flux and a bit of buffing is my suggestion.

Never the less, that is one clean fix!

It's easy see on the last photo that the gouge was filed and buffed out causing the case profile to be slightly flatter at the point of damage..

Taking out nicks and gouges is not miraculous. It just means that enough metal has to be removed to get below the damaged area..

Personally, I would not want a nick that deep to be completely taken out... it just takes too much metal off for me and once the top and side are filed and polished to remove the raised edges of a gouge, it becomes much less prominent..
