Newbie-never owned a Rolex-always wanted one. Been visiting forum as a
guest for some time and love it! My obsession has peaked and I'm ready to drop the hammer. Originally after the SS Sub Date 16610, but got sidetracked on the SS GMT II. Now the talk of the new and improved SS GMT II rumored to be coming later this year. Can't decide. Not a diver, and actually would use the 24 hour hand on the GMT. Guess I may have answered my own question, but I keep going back to the classic Sub.
If I were to pick the GMT, should I wait for the new one? Help!!!!

Hi Sandman, welcome aboard.

Try on the Sub and GMT II, and buy the one that sings to you the loudest and sweetest. You'll know it when it happens.

Welcome. I have the GMT and I love it. I use the third hand when I travel...it really comes in handy! They look similar so it's a toss-up. You can go 330ft under water with the GMT so that is not an issue! Good luck and post pics when you get it.

Don't think I can wait for the new SS GMT. Probably will be hard to
get and $$ initially.

If you dont need the GMT, I would buy JJ's sub! Mint mint at 4k you cant go wrong!

Well both are great watches and will give you a lifetime of use. It really depends on which "sings" to you and what functions you want.
The GMT will be fine in the water as deep as you are likely to go. It's my favorite.

Now having said that, a couple things to consider.
If Rolex introduces a new SS version of the GMT this year, rumor is it will only come with the black ceramic bezel. The current version gives you the option of changing the color of the insert if you so desire. Secondly, the new version uses 24 clicks as opposed to 120 used on the available GMT II. To me this MAY be a little less flexible when used as a timing feature, but as yet I've not had a chance to "play" with the newer bezel in depth.
The maxi-dial of the new version is a GREAT improvement!!

The case of the new model is thicker, something to consider if you want a watch with a slimmer profile.
Also, even if the new model comes out (SS version) it's going to be a while before it hits the ADs.
Honestly which ever way you go, you'll have an awesome piece that will give you a lot of pride!
