This eBay's listing of Rolex 5510 Big Crown Sub is misrepresented..

Err buddies...can Lady Casper wield her magic one to invalidate...
this eBay listing...for misinterpretation of a tampered "Rolex 5510 Big Crown Submariner"...?

"ROLEX SUBMARINER MODEL 5510 MADE IN 1959.
RARE JAMES BOND BIG CROWN SUBMARINER.
ORIGINAL DIAL..NOT REFINISHED !
1530 MOVEMENT RUNS GREAT. KEEPS GOOD TIME.
I WILL CONSIDER ALL SERIOUS OFFERS"

http://cgi.ebay.com/ROLEX-SUBMARINER...item4152616f6e

1. Case had been tampered with incorrect fonts of Case Ref#...
2. Case had been tampered with incorrect fonts of Case Serial Nos...
3. Case had been tampered with incorrect markings(restamped)
3. Bezel assembly is FAKEEE...

Note:...

a. Dial looks correct...
b. Cal. 1530 Movement looks correct...but without Butterfly Rotor...

Here are the pictures of the BAD watch from the listing...

O, also i am not digging the inside of that case back.
the bezel and rotor i get. the case ref number, hmmmm?
am sort of liking. the serial number, agree.

i am sure, that "I" probably don't handle as may as you (5510's)
in your library of watches and information. could please post
a few 5510 case ref. # or point me in the direction

all ears for a tip

keep the plastic's inside and wear the sapphires in the yard
you can always buy another if you tear it up

Err buddies...sure what good is knowledge...
when it's NOT shared...

Here's the tips...

1. In the 50s...many Rolex watches didn't bear the stamping marks of "REGISTERED DESIGN"...
between the lugs at 12 o'clock...

2. Even when it did exist on certain watches of perhaps late 50s...
for the likes of 5508 n 5510 Submariner...
the fonts "REGISTERED DESIGN"...
must conform to the norm at the time...
n should NOT have...LONG Middle Stroke of "E"...
to begin with...

The ones in eBay's 5510 is wrong...n the Middle Stroke of "E" is LOOOOG...

3. Most of production date stamping inside of Rolex caseback...
should be like "I.59 or II.59 or III.59 or IV.59 or VI.59"...
denoting the quarter period of production in that year...

The one in eBay's 5510 is stamped as..."1959"...
this is NOT seen before...inside original Rolex backcases.

4. eBay's 5510 Serial Nos. stamping of numeric fonts..."4829xx"...
between the lugs at 6 o'clock...is WRONG also...

One may wanna compare it with this one...
The correct stamping fonts should look like this...
for an example..."4821xx"...
Pics courtesy of VRF...

Orchi,

Check out the caseback on this one... maybe some do have that date format of I.195x ??? the auction below looks entirely kosher to me:

Err buddy Harry...that 6549 looks to be correct...
n Orchi did find a similar caseback of 5510 with "I.1958"...
BUT the "5510" fonts don't match up...
with the one in eBay's 5510..."I.1959".

Note: 5510 Sub is so rare...
that it's thought to be produced only in 1958...by Rolex.

n still there is the FAKE Crown on eBay's 5510...
to be added to the list of bad stuffs that the watch has...

In the States...
It's common to say...
"3 Strikes..."

The relevant pic showing the REAL Deal Rolex 5510 case Ref stamping
marks...is self destructed in 10 seconds...
(due to sensitivity to protect against FAKE n imitation attempts)
