help with older plated oyster please

A friend just purchased an older, at least 1960's, Oyster Perpetual. It is most definetly gold plated. There are markings between both upper and lower lugs however they look as if they were inscribed by hand. Is that normal for that age of Rolex? Also when looking at the dial of the watch it can be seen, though not easily, that not all of the letters are in a completely straight line. Some letters are maybe 1/2mm lower than others. I am not personally comfortable with this level of imperfections on a Rolex but I know absolutely nothing about old Rolex's. Any help is appreciated. Thank you
