"Nice watch, is that a Citizen?"

So, I wore this one to the office yesterday:

Our regular receptionist is on vacation, and we have a temp for the week. Nice guy, maybe in his mid 40s. I was standing at the front desk signing some checks when he pipes up and says, "Nice watch, is that a Citizen?" I smiled, and told him it was a vintage Rolex. He then asked if it was a chronograph. At that point, I went into full geek mode explaining the GMT function, Pan Am Airlines, pilots, yada, yada, yada. He showed off his Fossil, and spent the next few minutes telling me about how hard it was to find a watch that fit his thin wrists. Sharing the same problem, we commiserated as only WISes can

A similar thing happened to me on Monday. We'd just started back to work after the Christmas break, and one of my younger colleagues, who knows I'm a watch collector, came over to show me what his GF had bought him. A Fossil chrono on an orange strap.

I sort of slid my left arm behind my back a bit because I was wearing my TT Sub at the time, then went on to admire his watch and compliment him on it. To him his Fossil is a great watch, and that's what counts.

People appreciate it when they receive a compliment back.... I always try to return a compliment when someone says something about the watch I happen to be wearing.

Good for you, Jeff. Gotta teach those youngsters some history. Maybe he can join us for lunch next racing season.
Beautiful GMT.

That thing is a stunner! He probably just got a small heart attack seeing it! I know I would!

Funny - and good job on hearing and appreciating his watch story also - it doesnt mater what the make or cost is - a watch owner who likes/loves his watch is OK to me.

I'd say, 'I'm a citizen, but the watch isn't."
