The entrance fee will be 5K

Members saying Rolex will increase 8% in US from 5/10/11. It means the basic model which is Air King will be $4,920 (the current price is $4,550). Just wondering how many can afford a 5K watch and the prices will keep going up.

I don't think the thought crossed Rolex's mind.

For most folks, spending $5,000 on a wrist watch probably already seems a bit nuts.........

Rolex doesn't care how many people can afford it....the idea isn't to sell one to everyone. Rolex will be just fine, don't worry about them.

As long as the sell all are close to what they decide to produce then they are doing exactly what they need to do. They are hitting their targets and their goals.

At the end of the day, I'm sure Rolex won't have difficulty selling the brand.

Whole new market in the east. I don't think Rolex cares as long as they are selling.

Simple market rules: they raise prices because they can. People will pay.

I think they care, a lot, and further know precisely how many people will continue to buy and how many will defect. From there it is simple math, if $X1 increase decreases sales by N1 units, and $X2 increase decreases sales by N2 units, what price yields the most total profit.

In other words, I am certain Rolex is very aware of the price elasticity of demand for their products and acts accordingly.

Further, an 8% USD price increase is barely a currency correction, yielding them almost nothing in constant dollars, so they likely expect almost no impact on unit demand.

Well first of all, there is NOT a price increase this month coming... I have spoken with numerous AD's and several other reputable sources and they know of nothing... I believe there will be one however in Sept/Oct of this year.

As for the increases, it seperates the few from the masses. Rolex isnt a watch everyone has and the price increases make this a certainty. I think Rolex would assume if you can pay say $7300 for a SS Sub, why can you not may $7500 or even $8000 They will keep selling and people will keep buying, I see no concern here on the end of Rolex

Hi

Just wait and see, as to what will happen when the Chinese in China become 'addicted' to ROLEX. Definitely, the queue for a new Rolex watch will be extremely long. So far, they have not fallen in love with vintage Rolex watches, as yet.

It's been a really long 20 years since I last paid for a Rolex costing less than $5K. Wow!

And to think I bought a brand new Air King in 1997 for something like $2,200-2,300.

Me thinks that they will go more for the TT/ All gold/ Plat. models than the SS models.

Well if you can't afford a Rolex, you have no business owning one right? If an 8% price increase is going to make it too tough to swing a new watch, you probably aren't in the financial position to own a Rolex in the first place...

In aus the entry price of rolex air king is AUD $5210 so your still lucky in your prices, still too cheap if you ask me.

Asia including China has been Rolex biggest customer in watches sold for many years.

I say 'bring those price increases on'. It might make the brand a little more select!

At the end of the day, no one forces us to buy, buy, buy and after all there is a wide range of good quality cheap brands to sample i.e Seiko etc
