explorer II question
I am looking for a nib or perfect Explorer II, my question is what year or letter designation is the latest movement... I assume one with the rolex on the dial rim is the latest but is there a final one... what is the movement number and is it the one that has a different 24 hour changer on the stem... looking at Z M V G new at this. any clarification is appreciated..

The 16570 has is has just been discontinued, there will still be plenty around so the newest serial number will be a randon one.
I cannot remember when the movment changed from a 3185 to a 3186 movment (think it was 06/07). There is no other diffrence apart from the engrave rehault. By the way I have a 3185 movment and I am amazed at how accurate it is ![]()

The hour hand moves independently as does the red hand..
I last adjusted the time on mine last Nov and re-set it the start of this month (it was 20 sec's slow after 5 months). I wouldnt really worry about the movment at all ![]()

John.. I think that you need to do a bit of research on the Explorer II.. From your questions, I'm not clear why you want this model...
![]() All Explorer II's since the 1980's have independently adjustable hour hands (the dial does not move).. they use the same movement as the GMT II.. All mechanical movements made by Rolex are accurate to about the same specs for the era.. Either the 3185 or 3186 can usually be regulated to a couple of seconds a day.. The 3186 is not the "ultimate" (whatever that means) and the newest Explorer II to be released later this year has an improved 3187 movement..
