Rolex day date question
Hi people,
I am completely new to the world of Rolex.... beautifull watches I've seen a second hand rolex day date ( early seventies ) it has white date and day wheels. ( and gold dial ) Is it a bad sign when the day is not nicely centered in the day "window"? What is the normal price for a new day and date wheel? Will the centering problem be fixed with a new wheel? Or is there any other way to fix the centering problem? Ofcourse I would let all the work do by a pro. Thanks very much from a future Rolex owner ! |

Is it the day and the date or just the day wheel. Well both wheel sit on a double wheel that holds them in place and sometimes if the watch gets wacked technical term it can come off it's resting place I doubt you would need the disc replaced. The dial would have to come off the disc reset and possiby a disc washer to hold it in place. Of course if the watch hasn't been serviced now would probably be a good time. Rikki

Thanks Rikki, for your expert reply. And thanks Art for welcoming me.
Rikki, it is just the day that is not centered, it is slightly to the left. According to the owner some days are centered and some are to the left. Date seems to be right. The day and date is in white and the dial is gold, could they both be aftermarket? ( and inferior quality ). I would like to change the day and date wheel to gold coloured, I think that looks much better. When I buy the watch, I have decent protection to have it checked at a pro shop for authenticity. So there is no big risk for me. It would be great to own a day date, and join you cool Rolex owners... Besides the day-date, I like the daytona, milgauss and the GMT and sea-types. Beautifull stuff. Thanks again! Richard |

Welcome and the watch probably had a white or possibly black dial in the past. The problem with calendar disc's is that they are on an exchange basis only with Rolex and if they are aftermarket they cannot be sent in for that exchange. So I would have them checked for authenticity before purchase. There's a small notch on the disc that holds it to the jumping gear and sometimes this notch gets a little hogged out but it can be closed and tightened so it will stay more centered. Hope I helped Rikki

Thanks again Rikki, You're helping me a lot.
I found a watchrepairer close to home who can check the watch and components for authenticity. He says he can acquire the gold coloured day and date discs from collegues. With your information, I know the centering of the day in the window can be fixed. Richard |
