Breitling emergency

Designed for pilots and aircrews, the Emergency is an instrument watch with built-in microtransmitter broadcasting on the 121.5 MHz aircraft emergency frequency. Following a crash or a forced landing, for example, the Emergency will send a signal on which rescuers can home in. The watch thus serves as a complement to the aircraft’s own distress signaling equipment. The Emergency’s transmitter is activated by unscrewing a protective cap and pulling the antenna out fully. It will then broadcast for 48 hours. Over flat terrain or calm seas, the Emergency transmitter’s signal has a range of about 160 kilometers (100 miles), assuming the search aircraft is flying at 6,000 meters (20,000 ft).

PLEASE WRITE YOUR OPINION ABOUT THIS WATCH

And you'll get fined if you use it while not in an emergency.

I think it's cool and of I was Richard Branson or some adventurer I would get one. But, for me in my lifestyle my submariner is best.

It's a nice high tech watch. I doubt it (or you) would have a better chance of surviving a commercial air crash than that craft's emergency transponder, but who knows!

Seems it might be more useful to call help to a stranded or injured climber, hiker, kayaker, etc. in a remote location.

If you get one, hope you never have to use it!

Seems kinda hokey to me. Has one ever been used in an actual emergency successfully?

It's been a while, but I remember reading that the frequency it uses is no longer in use with aviation or maritime radios. Don't know if it's true or not. But if that's the case then it's not really of any use except for novelty.

yes, you get a 50 grand fine and the ERT (emergency response team) will be knocking on your front door!

MODERATOR - Please move to Breitling forum.

PS - As a licensed pilot, this is nothing but silly PR.

No pilot is going to rely on his/her watch for 121.5 emergency.

It's called a Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) just FYI.

What a joke.

We have a few more systems we count on than a Breitling

it comes with a tester to test the signal without setting it off. and every 2 years you bring it to breitling to get the transmitter replaced. seems to me like its real. just my opinion

Moved to Breitling Forum as this has nothing to do with Rolex.

Breitling Emergency

Read the title and all I could think was: "Quick, this man needs a Breitling!"

I think it's cool looking but that's all. To most it will serve the same purpose a DSSD gives to non diver. It's a second kind of cool. Conversation piece. That's all.
Ido not think pilots rely on this system, there are other beacons available with stronger signals etc. Cheaper too!
You like it,enjoy it.

Off topic, what do you guys think: is that a dangling participle, or is "in" part of the verb?

Saw one sold on an episode of "Pawn Stars" but I can't remember what they gave the guy for it.

I'm also a licensed pilot and I would think this would be kind of useful in the extreme wild for the lost or hurt hiker/climber where rescue planes are frequently called to search.

Stainless they go for around 2700-3100 on eBay for the more civilian looking (and higher MSRP) Emergency Mission version. The original ones with the digital display in Titanium, go for 2500-3K. Then there are SS/18K, all 18K and special editions, all of which fetch more, naturally.
