Panerai submersible resale...

Hello fellow TRF'ers. I am trying to learn more about the Panerai line. I am drawn to the large 44 and 47mm dials Panerai offers, and specifically the Submersibles.

Do Pan sub's hold their value well, comparable to other watch brands?? I am not buying as an investment or speculation, simply just do not want to own a watch which is worth half of what I paid two years earlier.

I am specifically drawn to the Pam 305 and 25, with their Ti case/bezel. I also like the hobnail dial of the 25.

The Titanium case/bezel and Hobnail dial... does this represent a safe/good purchase in the Panerai line?

Thanks!

Good question. I am not sure if all Pams hold their value over time, but I know a lot do.
Have you checked the price of a 177 or 176 five years ago? Both TI models.

Or a 2009 305 submersible? I am willing to bet the new price, and even the 2nd hand price is more than what was paid for them initially.

That would be a good indicator if they are holding their value.
Good Luck!
Cheers!

If you buy new, plan to hold for several years to recover a lot of your cost if you sell. If you get used, PAMs are pretty stable on the used market.

Steel Vs. Titanium submersible...

Steel vs. Tianium... which might hold their value better? I am contemplating a PAM 24 (steel) or TI PAM 305 or Ti PAM 25

My recommendation is to buy what you like not what you expect to resell..

IF you like then get it :) That being said though I think submersibles don't hold their value very well compared to other luminors. One submersible that holds it value very well that comes up to my mind is the PAM 382 and that even appreciates above the retail price..

Buy them in mint condition preowned after the original buyer has taken a hit .. Then, u got urself a basically new watch with minimal chances of losing money should u flip it ...
In addition, PAMs are easy to sell and easy to trade unless U got yourself a Pam Ferrari that no one wants anything to do with ..

If you are worried about price depreciation go pre-loved!

Imo, based on the past and how far Panerai prices have risen, if you buy a mint pam 305 in the pre-loved market/grey mkt ~7.5k, you will be better off than most other watches that retail for 10k plus...and I think the 305 is a real beauty as long as you are comfortable with the size of the watch!

But if you buy it at the boutique/AD at list plus...you will certainly have a 30-40% losser for a long time - just my opinion

And yes, my AD's are quite unhappy with me - too bad for them :-)

Btw, I have a preference for Pam 24 vs Pam 25 precisely because Im not crazy about Panerais w/hobnail dials.

The 305 will be fine if you buy right. The 24 is more desirable than the 25 but again no premium should be placed on these. Buy the best condition/price you can and you will be fine

If you buy either model at secondary market value, they will both hold their value about the same. There are much fewer of the 305. In the long run, that may make a difference.
You get a lot of watch with the 305.

305 is my favorite of all the PAM Subs.
Has it all.

Thanks for the great feedback. I tried on a 305 in Portland recently, and was quite surprised how well this watch fit me. I have 7 1/2" wrist, and the 305 felt right at home! I like how both legible and simple the dial is. The 47mm was not too much by any means, and anyone who has not tried this watch on (who likes the look) should give it a go.

I have a collection of Submersibles and I love them all. My 243 is my daily watch and I much prefer stainless steel over titanium. Am waiting for the new AMagnetic Submersible.

Agree with all, if you buy in the resale market the value will hold well.
