1675 vs. 16750

Can I please be educated on the differences between the 1675 and 16750?

I am in the market for a Pepsi GMT Master with the following characteristics:

- Consistent yellow lumed markers and dial
- A clean / non scratched up bezel - I'm fine if the watch has been polished
- Oyster bracelet

Should I be focusing more on 1675s or 16750s? Is there a big difference in prices to expect to pay? Initially I honed in on looking for a 1675 Mark 1 but now I'm overwhelmed and would appreciate help/advice from this forum.

www.gmtmasterhistory.com explains the model differences of GMT's very well.

The 16750 hacks and the 1675 doesn't. Neither model in itself is rare, and price will really just boil down to the condition of the particular watch. I'd buy the one in the best condition I could afford, whether it was 1675 or 16750.

If you're looking for more patina, I suppose I'd have to lean towards the 1675! If you have to have a stop-seconds feature, then 16750 it is.

And let's say I find a 1675 that has the consistent yellow lume I'm looking for, but the bezel has scratches on it. Can the bezel be polished out?

I realize there is an irony in looking for a "clean looking" vintage watch, but that's what I want :)

Inserts aren't real tough to find. Fortunately any insert for an acrylic GMT will fit any acrylic GMT. And any insert for a sapphire GMT will fit any sapphire GMT (except ceramic).

For clarification, the GMT 1675 came with a hacking movement sometime during the 1970's - the older GMT's do not have a hacking movement. When you "hack" the watch, the winding crown is unscrewed, pulled out all the way, and it stops the second for more precise time setting.

What the 16750 has that the 1675 does not is a quick-set date feature, which was a very nice addition to the GMT line.

John nailed it.
Finding a Matt dialed 16750 is a bit harder nowadays than a 1675.
16750 is best of both world, but comes with a premium.
Good luck

I actually started a thread not long ago with this very question... the consensus seemed to be that the 1675 is the "true vintage" while the 16750 isnt as much... i think they both are awesome. I notice slight case differences as well however. The earlier 1675s had more beveled edges than the later 17650s.

Thanks for keeping me in line John. I have one of the older non-hacking ones and forget that sometimes.
