Help with this 1680, thinking of a dial change also
Hello guys
Im looking at buying the following 1680: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rolex-Submar...item417e66641c I was also thinking of replacing the dial with a red dial, and im looking for an excellent example such as the one in the above link with new hands to match the freshness of the dial I will be putting on I know its frowned upon but is it a lot of work putting the red dial in Thanks in advance Danny |

It is a nice watch...but...as far as the Red Dial, a 5.6 is not a proper "red" range. It would be a white 1680 dial.

If I were you, I would save up, take more time, and get what I really wanted - a red sub. Good luck with your decision

As has been said, if you want a Red Sub save and buy a Red Sub rather than look to source a Red Dial and put it in a White sub which is not period correct. If you got an original red dial, it wouldn't match the service luminova hands on the white, unless you replace them as well at even more cost.
Not only is this a lot of effort and expense to change parts, expect HMRC to hold onto your watch until you pay 20% import duty! |

thanks for the input, cant justify the cost of a red just now especially with it just being the red itself and was thinking go down the route of the dial change and keep the watch for personal use
not bothered about the serial number range being out of range as its for personal use @stevedssd would the service hands not match a dial such as this the one in this link or be pretty close: http://ndtradingcorp.com/zen/index.p...roducts_id=461 i wont be paying import duty |

Just buy a good white now and enjoy it. You can always flip it for a red when you feel the time is right. (or keep both)

Karl summed it up at post #3 - pass.
The watch in question has a service dial and hands, nothing wrong with that if the price is right. In this case the starting bid price is very top end. The consensus is go for a good White, rather than start swapping parts in that are not period correct, thus creating a Frankenwatch that will be worth less than the white you started with. 1680 Whites are starting to appreciate in value, they will never be as collectable as a Red but they are a nice vintage watch in their own right |

the cost of an untampered dial as well as period, matching hand set would make it a not starter..as others have said, save the cash & buy the real deal

I wouldn't post links to fake dials. It can get you banned.

Im not sure on how to remove it
I think ill be just sticking to a 1680 without changing the dial, does the swiss on the bottom of the dial itself indicate the dial is a service dial? |

Leave it alone, do not support these fake dial makers.
