Just Bought a Vintage Datejust 1601 - Thoughts.....

Hi all,

I have just purchased a Datejust 1601 from auction (dating to c.1970) - should have it within the next couple of weeks. Wanted to see what you guys think I should do from here.

As it stands, I am more than likely going to have it serviced. Should I ask RSC to service the watch head (excluding the bracelet as it looks stretched) or with the bracelet? I was planning on sending the bracelet to MY in HK. If I need to replace anything on the watch, what are your guys thoughts on this (e.g. hands, dial etc)?

I was also potentially interested in finding a period correct box for the watch itself with booklets etc. Is it worth all the hassle? I know that these DJ's aren't worth that much, but I am thinking of down the line somewhere.

Thanks guys!

I haven't received it as I just bought it from an auction house in London today. As I live in the UAE, I think it will take around two weeks before I receive it - so will post pics then

As with any vintage piece, I replace nothing that didn't absolutely need replacing.

I bought new in 1974 (gold and steel) for $600 (military price), and many years later traded for a Cartier Pasha. DJ's were really in vogue back then. DJ's are great watches.
