16660 Sea Dweller, can an 8.6 mil be matte?
I"m looking at this vintage triple six and am concerned about 2 things. Everything I've read states the matte dials were pretty much cut off at 8.5mil. This is an 8.6 mil case. What do you think of the dial? Is it a a Mk I? Does it look original to the watch? Any other comments?
Thanks, Larry The blurred areas are where I removed id marks. I don't have pics of the case back yet. |

dial is in fact a mk1 ..
correct up to 8.0 circa ....
so this dial is not certainly the pristine one for the watch .. btw hands and indexes have different shades of colour ..... at 8.6 my default option is a glossy dial and not a matt one. |

Based on my own experience having bought more than i can remember of the 666 i have found glossy dial in the 8.23 range from original owners. I have also found mate into the 8.3 range from original owners. This is what I call the grey area or crossover area. I personally would not pay up for an 8.4 or higher matte 666 as I am not comfortable that the market will accept it as a true matte dial watch. Others may feel different and thats what make a market place.

The patina is in incredible.....it seems like a lot of work to find a dial like that match the pearl up just to betray a fake.
IMHO, I'd by it... |

Check out the DRSD website...for the serial the dials were typically gloss, but some either cracked and kept with spiderwebs while others were replaced with new gloss dials that have faded to matte....good luck!

I think for that serial it should be a glossy dial with white gold surrounds.
