Wouldn't personally buy it - BUT... WOW !!! Platinum - and my preferences

Hello. Took a look at some new Rolex's.

I was comparing my Milgauss with the following two watches.

Now of course it's apples, oranges, and bananas, but the material
used are different in each of them.

The Milgauss is a nice weighty kind of watch. I really like the blue lumins.

I understand the older models of the blue Sub Mariner have green lumins.

The newest version have solid links, blue lumins (non diamond dials), and
a much heavier watch.

I would say this is 25 to 30% heavier than my Milguass. Love this watch.

Definately my next watch unless something incredible grabs my eye.

Yesterday I went to the local AD and had the opportunity to see all of the
Baselworld 2014 range.

I purchased a chronograph watch before, and really dispise the concept of
the sweeping second hand to be in one of the smaller dials. Yes I
completely understand that is the design of such a watch, and yes if I
want to see the larger second hand in motion I would have to activate the
stop watch.

I received an explaination of what a solid platinum watch compares to
a solid gold watch. The material is much more valuable, the material is
much heavier. It does not shine brighter than other materials.

But... when I held this watch, WOW !!! maybe at least 1.5 times heavier
than the new blue sub-mariner.

Beautiful watch to look at, and definately hold. A $91,000 watch.

The chronograph quality, the sweeping hand being in the small dial, a real
deal breaker for me. I would NEVER buy any such watch, I seriously will
never get used to seeing a smaller sweeping hand. The large sweeping
hand with the other model watches, particular Rolex, the motion, to me
personally is so mesmerizing, perhaps hypnotising if you will.

The sound of the sweeping large hand, I put a stethescope on a Rolex,
is so amazing. I would be interested to know if anyone owns a Daytona if
smaller sweeping hand ticking sounds like a Milguass or sub-mariner larger
sweeping hand. I would appreciate the answer if anybody has heard the
sound with their own ears (not what they have been told).

I may simply have to wait 5-10 years one day for another platinum watch
that has a white dial, that is not a chronograph or Daytona (smaller
sweeping hand).

Come to think of it, there are very few additional properties/complications
that I would take advantage of. The Milguass resistance to shock is
perhaps the most practical and useful to me. I will never part with that.

The 100, 300, 1000, or 4000 metre water proofness, I wouldn't even
swim or shower with it on, let alone go anywhere near a beach or ocean
to use it's waterproofness or function. That is just me.

Day of the week ? If I need to be reminded on what day of the week it is
I'm probably going to forget where I left my watch and most likely to lose
it.

Two zones ? too lazy to wind the watch myself ? gimmick in my eyes.

However I guess if you think about it, 90% of all complications are nearly
non-practical or of any real value.

Would you pay extra for the diamonds, gold, or other materials? At least
that does not scale with the cost to service a Rolex.

The colour of the dial is very likely to sway your decision making process.

Say if I did win a big lottery, would I then end up buying a Daytona? 99%
still not. I found some absolutely heaventy sub-mariners, that you can
buy only in Italy, where Rolex make 50-60 of in the world. Those are most
rare, and I guess even more expensive than the platinum Daytonas.

I would really bide my time before chosing anything as my third watch,
unless it was a watch of my birth year.

Too many diamonds on the band make it way too delicate for me to wear
on a regular basis. Even if I had the money to replace the band, diamonds
inside the dial would be sufficient.

The 904L steel robustness is a real winner IMHO. Study, strong, quite
resistent to scratching. Not going to fall apart on you.

A minute repeaper would be something that Rolex should develop as many
watch lovers have a nostalgic value to such poetry. You have other
brands that sell so many repeaters. It would not go down as a step
backwards.

I would only imagine that the Skydweller since its release has never even
come close to their top seller in comparison to other models.

A everrose gold Rolex would be something down the track I would love to
get. Nothing quite stands out for me, yet.

I would never buy a Skydweller either, even if I won the lottery.

Neither a day-date, a Daytona, any watch with a leather strap.

Any dial that is less than 39 mm.

That is just my personal preferences. I don't see myself as only buy the
cheapest Rolex, we all know all parts are exceptional quality. I have to
justify paying all that extra money for complications I would never use nor
appreciate. To me it is money best spend on something that is far more
practical. Milgauss is the perfect answer, but that blue sub, can't stop
thinking about it.

Rolex I am sure could make beautiful repeaters.
