1655 question
Is it possible to have a mk 1 dial straight hand with a mk 2 bezel on a 3.7mil case?
Seems that 3.7mil approximates to 1973. |

Yes, you can have a MKI dial (straight hand) with a MKII bezel.
MKI Stern is c2.5 -3.5 mil (c'70-'73) |

Karl is absolutely correct (of course!). My 1655 is indeed Mk 1 dial with Mk 2 bezel.

thanks guys!
but i still have doubts about a 3.7mil(kindda late) case having a mk 1 dial. but rolex is well known to have overlapping issues with parts.... |

I am by no means an expert, but I believe the watch in those photographs has a Mk 2 dial, not Mk 1. The thing I always look for is the space between the "L" and the "E" in "ROLEX." The space is larger on the Mk 1 dial.
EDIT - actually isn't that an even later dial (maybe Mk 4), because of the <25 T at the bottom? |

if it's mk 4, then what's the straight hand doing there?

That seems to be the case. Put it this way, I have never heard of/seen a straight seconds hand on a 1655 with that late of a dial (Karl I think I am coming to the same conclusion that it is a Mark V dial - to the OP, one way to be sure would be to look closely at the font used for "T SWISS < 25 T"). I have to add the disclaimer again that I am not an expert, but I think this example has issues.

Here's an amazing example of a minty MKI dial with MKI bezel, posted by a member yesterday (cf-ken). Just stunning. Virtually NOS, by the looks of that one photo.
https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=392702 I borrowed the pic for reference. |

With a 3.7 mil case, straight hand is possible, but the dial and bezel on that watch are not period correct. No way did the watch leave the factory in that configuration.

Pics are blurry.
Mk 5 dial with mk 2 insert with incorrect straight hand.

Much later t<25 dial in an early 3.7 mil case that is late for straight seconds - imo put together from parts and did not leave geneva this way. Not a big issue if it pleases u aesthetically, but if this is the specific watch from a specific dealer in a specific part of scotts road, then I have viewed it. Fair condition with a useless to me RSC verification receipt. Asking price too high imo as is to be expected why it is still on sale after so long.

Hi guys, apologies if I'm jumping in but I haven't properly checked mine.
I did a quick bit of research before I bought it and believe it has Mk 5 dial with a Mk 3 bezel? It has a 590**** serial with I presume, the correct (non-straight) seconds hand. .... interesting thread, learning more each day thanks to you lot! |

RSC singapore authenticated this to be genuine, neglecting period issues...obviously..
