Sea-dweller - fake or real?

Hi forum,

This is my first post in here, look very much forward to getting much more information on Rolex watches in general!

To start of with, I've been offered this Sea-Dweller in a trade with another watch, but I've got doubts - does it look real to your trained eyes?

Of course the trade would be at a licensed watch-shop, but I don't want to waste my time, if there is something easily spotted from the picture alone.

Br,
Kasper

Anyone able to give a hint? I would like to set a date for an appointment soon, so if anyone has any pointers up front, it would be very much appreciated.

Too risky to give you a definite opinion based on one photo. Much like the DSSD 166600, the basic ceramic sub has been dang near 1:1 cloned by the rep community. Therefore, unless you can get better (at least 6) good crisp photos from all angles, I'm not comfortable giving a thumbs up or down. Others might be, but I'm not. If he's willing to meet at a shop then he thinks its real I'd assume???

Do a google image search, the same photograph as yours appears in at least four other places on the internet

same goes for the SD4000 as the SubC and DSSD. They all are 1:1 rep'd at a level we've not seen before. You have to be very very careful with these. Furthermore, make sure the pictures you are given to evaluate are of the actual watch you are considering. It's much much safer to buy from a trusted seller here. Great prices and authentic products are a certainty

Thanks for the replies - greatly appreciated.

I think I will go ahead and meet with the seller. Then I'll have the shop have a critical look on it as well.

Thanks again - hope to join the proud family of Sea-Dweller owners soon!

What's up with the radial streaks starting in the 0 of 10 and the 3 beyond that?

I think that is a light reflection on the bezel insert....

No idea if it is real or not, but it looks nice for whatever that is worth.

Be careful with that one... I would only buy it after an AD opens it and gives a thumbs-up.

KasperM What was the outcome? Was the watch the real deal?

The deal didn't go through as the seller sold the watch to another buyer who didn't insist on meeting at a dealer for verification.

Whether this means that there was something fishy, or if it was pure convenience that made seller choose this option i can only speculate.

However, I've also found out that the thought of a sea-dweller from the year of my birth would be something that I would find alot more interesting. So, I will start looking for an R-series tripple6 (preferably from 1987). Might end up posting in the "looking to buy" section of this very site :)

Thanks again for the replies, it's been greatly appreciated!

Will they open it? My AD won't open a watch that needs to be pressure tested after opening. In fact, my AD said they will never open a SD because they don't have the proper equipment to pressure test it because of its depth rating.
