Lume paint

Bit of a random thought but how hard wearing and adhesive is lume paint? and does it always have to be a white or simlair pale colour?

Lume comes in several different colors. You can mix them too to get different shades.

Vanessa thank you for the info, is red a colour option at all and also do you know how durable it is if exposed to moisture and contact ie on the outside of a watch?

I am not aware of red lume and it wouldn't work outside of the watch case. The slightest contact will damage the coating.

Apparently it exists, although it's the dimmest of all the colors and I've never seen it. http://powerfunk.org/superluminova_colors.pdf

If I remember it correctly I think I have seen pics of Bamford watches with red lume.

Question: I'm considering getting an older series Exp 2 (mid '90s-'00). Depending on the one I get and how well the lume has held up does RSC replace faces? I know they will replace hands (for a fee) but what about a fresh face, if the lume is shot?

In the late 1990's, dials with "luminova" lume were introduced which will not lose their brightness. These dials will read "Swiss" or "Swiss Made" at the bottom. As far as the older tritium dials, Rolex will sell you a luminova service replacement dial for $550 last I checked. That's $550 in addition to the cost to service the watch. Probably cheaper & easier to buy a newer watch if working lume is important to you. Hope this helps!
