Omega and "Limited" Editions

I have always been a fan on Omega watches, but is seems more often than not they are coming up with more and more "limited" editions to the point where I'm not sure they are doing themselves a favor. While the number of units produced for each addition seems "limited", the sheer number of different "limited" editions Omega puts out is almost mind boggling...

Just curious what others think...

1.) Does Omega put out too many "limited" editions?

2.) In your opinion, what are the top 3 most sought after LE from Omega?

I second that emotion. I rarely see an Omega that is NOT some kind of "limited edition". I will buy an Omega if it speaks to me but I believe you are right that the quantity is too high for any of them to be truly limited.

I was recently in the Omega boutique and after the saleswoman showed me at least 10 new items I joking asked if there was anything in the store that was NOT some new limited edition. She did not laugh at all and the joke seemed to go over her head. Oh well.

I love that they come out with so many new variations of watches, but agree not everything needs to be LE.

The Speedmaster line is particularly like this. Lately, of course, it has trickled over to the Seamasters with the "limited" run of 7000+ Spectre watches. 7000? That's limited?

Well omega isn't producing all these limited editions just for the kick of it. They're doing it because evidently there is a huge market demand for it. People are willing to dish out more for a watch just because it's "limited edition." You and I may not be one of these people but the market demand is there and omega is just capitalizing over this demand. It's all business.

Love Omega but am at the point I just prefer the older vintage pieces. Flightmaster etc. Omega as you said has for example expanded the Speedy line way too far IMHO. Al

"Huge Market Demand?" And you base this on what exactly?

If it wasn't selling for them, they'd stop doing it. They're not gonna waste the $ on producing and marketing something that doesn't sell.

I once read a sentence about a Tag Heuer that said Limited Edition and 30,000 made. I chuckled.

In my opinion, nope. I am glad they make many variants. I don't like them all, but I am glad that they keep doing them.

I am glad they do it. They make some really nice watches. I really love the Omega Speedmaster 3507.51, trying to find one right now.

I like the variants too, and really never paid attention to the monicker "LE". It's a plus that Omega prices are less than those of Rolex equivalent (if there is such a thing).

I was not aware of Omega at a time before they started with yearly Speedmaster LEs etc so for me Omega has always been doing this and I don't mind. The original moon watch is the nicest one they have though.

Yes, IMHO, they probably do, although I am more sensitive to the total # produced, than how many different watches are LE.

Well, I'm a Speedmaster guy, so mine would be:

1. 35th Anniversary Apollo-Soyuz "Speedyorite"
2. 2015 Silver Snoopy
3. 45th Anniversary Apollo XI (Sedna Gold, Titanium)


I'm lucky enough to own all three of those (patiently waiting for the Silver Snoopy). Honorable mention's would be the 1975 Apollo-Soyuz, and the Gemini IV blue dial.

Great list so far guys.... i would also add the Planet Ocean Liquid Metal Limited to that list.... took me over a year to finally get my hands on one... problem is its basically BNIB an i am afraid to ding it up... lol

For me, none of the LE watches are as attractive as the original watches that they are based on. This goes especially for the Speedmasters.
