A change of scenery - Sea-dweller 1665 available locally!

So I came across someone who is selling a 1665 from 78. Pretty close to what I've been looking for (5513, from 79) and doesn't have the 2 things I dislike about the 1680 - the cyclops and the top hat. This is superdome baby.

So I'm meeting the seller either tomorrow or day after. He seems like a genuine collector and has sent me the following pictures (below).

Some specifics about the watch:

- Serial no is 584X
- Comes without bracelet/end links
- Was inspected for authenticity in 2014 by Swedish Rolex AD, which will be provided.
- Bezel has a deep scratch at 20, but is otherwise good and original (can't tell)
- Last service was done 2 years ago. Hasn't been tested for water pressure etc. Keeps time well though not measured seconds gained/lost per day.
- No box, papers, warranty etc.

I'll let the pics tell more.

What I like is that while it has features of the 5513, and because it's locally available, I can inspect and buy so less of a risk.

I asked if dial, bezel and hands were all original and unchanged and he didn't know but says they "seem to be". Honestly, I can't tell so will let the experts weigh in.

Also, what would one typically pay for one of these? What would be a fair price for this condition? He is open to offers and the initial asking price is within my modest budget of approx 9k USD.

Looks to be a service Dial with the "Swiss" only marking at 6 O'Clock.

Ah, did not notice that. So the dial should instead have been "Swiss T < 25", just like the 5513 from this era?

Correct. Fonts look horrible. CGs are wrong.

Insert is no good. Bezel looks no good.

Faizan,

don't rush into buying something else because it takes a little longer than expected...
this is what vintage collecting is all about, you set your mind on a reference and the hunt starts.
there are nice 5513's out there, you only need patience, cash and connections

Good question....I'd like to know the answer myself. I reckon, its the placeholder of the movement within the actual case and behind the case back, but could be way off the mark...

Michael,

Mid-case means it is the case body only (without the retaining ring, insert etc). So the case body itself is not an original 1665 case?

Thanks.
