new friction ring Rolex 1680

tried to put a new friction ring in my rolex 1680 ( done it a dozen times before) and for some reason it got stuck real tight in the bezel. I can't get it out - anyone have any ideas? I was able to get the bezel back on the watch but it doesn't fit the way it should ( click in ). Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
