I agree that it is a cool shot especially considering the 16700 was never offered with the coke bezel insert. It makes a nice change to the standard however. I have one but have never but it on my watch.

Just bought a 16700 from a shop in Chichester UK. Been looking at a new submariner for 6 years and promised myself a new one but couldn't resist this 1996 model with its classic look. Didn't have a manual but came with service records and the box with hologram tag.

I liked their bezels / so clean, numbers are easy to read, not bold like on modern gmt master 2 with 6 digit cases. I think it is a great piece and thanks for the write up.

My 16700 in its natural habitat.
I recently traded my 16700 for a 1675. I like the wider bezel and the bigger marker. I felt the 16700 (and 16710) are just too skinny. |

My 16700 GMT is one of my most regular wearers at present. Always seem to do a re-read of this thread - great info and pics!

After much consideration i decided to drop the search for a nice (affordable!) 1675 and go for a 5 digit in stead. Yesterday i picked up this beautiful 16700.
X-series, 1994 with box and papers. I changed the bezel for a pepsi for now, but like the somewhat matte original black bezel. |

This whole thread is a great read. I've owned a U series 16700 since new from an Edinburgh AD. Arrived in store January 2000 and I bought it same day. Delighted to read that it must be among the last 16700s made.
After 16 years with the original black bezel I'm motivated to get a black/red bezel which will make it look like a whole new watch while keeping the same familiar comfort/feel. |

Oops - clearly didn't read the thread well enough, or I would have learned that black/red wasn't standard... I'll try the blue/red instead

It's much thinner than other GMTs. I miss mine.

Last of the "real" GMTs. Fabulous, under-appreciated reference. I like occasionally switching bezels on my GMTs and Subs, but I'll never put a Coke bezel on my 16700 since it never originally came with one, another cool difference with the 16710.

New to this forum but I have enjoyed reading this thread.
I have owned my GMT 16700 since 1994 having purchased it after a bad motorcylcle crash which I am fully recovered from. I bought it to remind me of the valuable time I have after the crash. I will never sell it. I changed to the Coke bezel on its last service but I will change it back to the Pepsi bezel when I get it serviced next. I did find that the Pepsi bezil had faded quiet badley over the years when I displayed it next to a new pepsi Bezil which was one of the reasons I changed to the Coke one which hasn't faded at all. Loving the pictures of the GMTs |
