Ugh!!!scratches!!!!!
I'm sitting here like a jerk putting tape on my watch band. A friggin Daytona with blue masking tape on the band "how cool." Can you guys give me some suggestions about what you use to protect from those fine scratches. And what do you use to wipe your watch? Thanks Have a great evening.....G

The Best and only thing i use to wipe my watches is a chamois leather cloth
The Rolex cloth and other cloths do produce fine patina lines esp on gold. Make sure the watch is CLEAN because if dirty the dirt will act as sand paper even if you use a chamois. |

Most people here will tell you to wear the damn thing. But to be honest, I hate scratches on my wathes too. So when Im at the office, I use office clear tape and put a strip of type on the clasp. This helps a lot. But you cant pervent scratches all the time but with care you can have less scratches.
Or I take off my watch at the office too sometimes. Heres some example of how I keep my watches here are some pics. the Daytona wore about 4months old, the sub I wore for about 4months I think. The YM i wore for about 7 months DJ was about a year old and last was my GMTc I wore for 8months. |

I try to just wear them, but the scratches do get to me after a while. I use a Googalie cloth and scrubbing bubbles to keep them clean. For removing scratches, I use CapeCod cloths and fine grit paper. All these steps I have posted at http://www.minus4plus6.com/maintenance.htm -Sheldon

Let's face it no one likes scratches on a $5k watch or in your case a $10k or plus watch but you are the only one who is going to notice them. They are inevitable, unavoidable and correctable. I say just accept them and know they are there because you choose to use your watch as intended. If they ever get to the point that they really get to you, say in 5-7 years, Rolex will be happy to charge you a handsome fee to bring it back to the fleetingly pristine condition that you cherish.

I know, David. This kind of thread, after enough repeats, begins to seep into your brain. Then, you fall victim of The Neurosis of TRF. Much dreaded and no known cure. Personally, I'm lined up with a psychiatrist for tomorrow morning. The thing is, do I tape my watch before leaving for the doctor's office, or just carry it in my pocket?

Tape? Consider them love bites instead. You'll be more content then. If you are that afraid of using your watch, perhaps you should wear something else.

They will come right back - I just wipe mine down with a cotton cloth to get the fingerprints off - it restores the shine.

I kind of like the way a watch looks after some wear.... It tones down the bling some..

then again, the ultimate solution is to quit obessesing but i sometimes can't take my own advice. so what good is that? this reminds me of the David Duchovny character in the movie ZOOLANDER. David Duchovny is an aging hand model but he's been able to keep his hand from getting hurt or aging by putting in a vaccum sealed glass chamber. I wonder if it would also offer complete watch protection.

Herein lies the reason why I just have no love for polished links on a watch bracelet, brushed for me where possible, always.

Well with my vote that's X3. I am not abusive but I do WEAR my watches and shoot my expensive guns. I will follow suit with my Rolex one day but this is exactly why I think I may have to have two Rollies eventually.......... One for easy, well dressed times, one for everyday and everything, whether it be rough, easy, or harsh exposure to all sorts of things.
