Rolex for my wife
Hello and thanks for your feedack in advace. I have never owned a fine time- piece but would like to get a Rolex for my wife. We looked at a new Oyster Perpetual Lady's-Datejust with the dial set with diamonds.
A couple questions: 1. How do you know a fair price (he said they've been slow and would sell for $6100 2. Is it better to buy used as I've seen similar for much cheaper 3. What questions do you ask if buying used and over the internet 4. It was a stunning watch, any negatives I wouldn't know or see Thanks again for your help; it's TRULY appreciated. Jim |

1. 15-20% off retail on a ladies DJ seems good to really good. so you do the math.
2. I would buy new from an Authorized Dealer if it is a gift and first timer with Rolex. So you don't have to worry about authenticity, warranty, servicing, etc. 3. Avoid due to inexperience. 4. No negatives. Just make sure the dial (with diamonds) is factory original, not aftermarket. (shouldn't have to worry if buying from an AD.) |

The discount depends on where you live. Some may say they got a 20% discount but you may not be able to get the same because of your location and also because you may not have a buying history with the authorized dealer (AD). Unless you plan on going out of state trying to search for a good deal, I would look around locally and see what's the best you can get...whatever you end up with will be the best deal. As for buying over the internet, be careful...there are great deals out there but you take a risk. I've heard of lots of people buying from members from this website and so far have not heard of any problems. Check the sale section...not too long ago someone was selling a new datejust with diamond markers for a good price.

You can also purchase from a reputable gray market dealer and obtain a decent price.
