Several guys at my agency including myself commemorate promotions or other milestones with watches and many choose Rolex. Submariners are the most common around here. But I wear an explorer and a coworker has a gmt2c with the blue and black bezel.

For a work related commemoration, I can't imagine a better tribute than the gmt in black and blue. Especially if you work for a uniformed agency and would have reason to wear a uniform ever (despite being a detective now, you may find yourself back on the streets if you promote higher).

But as others have said, if one looks better when you try it, get that one. Don't let a bunch of randos online tell you what to do. Be safe.

Congrats on the promotion .. A Sub-C date or no date would probably be a good choice for a detective IMPO

I'd go full-on Bosch and get a Sea-Dweller.
