Does the Buckley datejust work as a dress watch?

As the title says, do you think the Buckley (any variation - 1600, 1601, 1603, 16030 etc.) works as a dress watch? I've been looking at getting one of these with the white (or ideally, harder to find taupe) dial because I really need a non-sports/dress watch that I can wear to work daily. Right now the gap is filled almost exclusively by either of my two beauties - 1675 or 5513 - but they are clearly too sporty to wear with a suit every day (though with a Jubilee, the 1675 comes pretty darn close).

What I'm really wanting to know is how the buckley would look with a black or brown crocodile or alligator strap, so if you have any pics, feel free to share.

I think just about any DJ, especially one on leather, would be fine with a suit.

Maybe it's just me, but you have two of the coolest, most iconic, beautiful, classic time pieces the world has seen. And if I saw you waltz into a formal reception, in a suit, or even a tuxedo, wearing that Submariner, I'd immediate regard you as the most stylish guy in the room!

The painted Roman is an elegant dress watch. The big roman numerals have been used since the earliest days of horology by every manufacturer of note and have always set the stylistic tone. This is an 84 16030.

I love the Buckley Dials

I know you were refering to a DateJust, but please look at Michael Morgan's Blue Buckley Day/Date on IG that he purchased yesterday...the most stunning Buckley I've ever seen!

I agree with you, the sport models are a little "too sporty" to wear with a suit every day. The Datejust goes very well for formal or dress occasions. A "Buckley" dial would be that much nicer. Having a nice dress watch is a bonus to complement any watch collection.

I like all the Buckley dials and esp for dress. I had this for years and enjoyed on strap and bracelet. I miss it.

Yeah I just saw that. WOW.

The thing is, I want a lighter dial and especially something that works with the white shirts and brown shoes I usually wear with a suit at work. I like a little diversity and am trying to stick to getting either a white or a taupe coloured Buckley. But those blue ones look so good...

True. I am torn actually between a white dial buckley or a more modern JLC Master Control, which is about twice the price of the DJ anyway....why are the DJ's so affordable? Is it their size at 36mm or their abundance?

I see the DateJust as a dress watch, so yes one with a Buckley dial will be fine too.

I'm researching as much as I can and from what I can tell the DJ Buckley's were made on numerous models (1600, 1601, 1603, 16030, 16013, 16014 are the ones I've found so far) anywhere from the mid 70's to around the mid 80's. Would that be a correct assumption?

Also, how does this one from 86 look? Apparently, it's near mint....
