Identify Vintage Rolex
My MIL sent me these shots looking for some details on her grandad's vintage Rolex she recently inherited. It runs and sweeps smoothly. She says it started running when she picked it up. Any help appreciated.

It is a bubble back from 40's or early 50's.

Hopefully, Tommy Taylor (R.W.T.) will be along to share his views on your watch. Please don't wind it and play with it until you decide what to do with it. That it runs is a wonderful thing but those old parts are rare and expensive and running them with no lubrication could be a mistake.
Best of luck! |

Reference 5050 more than likely. The gold bezel is only an ornament.
It snaps on over the steel bezel that holds the crystal in unlike the 3133 that it resembles which has a solid gold bezel that screws semi-permanently into the case. As MG 88 said it's very late 40's early 50's. Dial is refinished. If you plan to wear it definitely a service is in order. I can take care of it if you wish. The crown is pretty worn. I just supplied my last yellow gold one on another repair.
I could source one or if it seals that is kind of the important thing. Worst case scenario is put a fresher stainless crown on. Needs a case tube for sure. |

Excellent, thanks so much for the insights. I'll pass it along to my MIL and see where she wants to go with it.
