Rolex GV Replacement Cost

No worries, I haven't broken my GV sapphire crystal. But the thought occurred to me that the GV would cost a lot more to replace than the standard. Rolex didn't even patent the process because "it's so difficult, no one else will try." I found one thread on TRF from 2012 with estimates around 400-500 USD minus the cost of a full service to check for fragments in the movement.

Has anyone else lived through this tragic and expensive experience, specifically with the GV? What did it cost you and did you try to use insurance (home or property)? I would never consider an aftermarket replacement part in this case.

I'm not superstitious but I can't help but be nervous even writing this post. "I haven't been sick in over a year." Sneezing and coughing a week later...

Part of the high price of owning a Rolex. I would only worry about that when and if the time ever comes. In the world of Rolex, $500 is not an expensive fix.

Seems like last time this was brought up it was about $1000 for a replacement crystal but I may be wrong.

In my 20 years of watch collecting i have not managed to break sapphire crystal but have fractured my bone..my skin has got more bruises than my watches

Best idea I've seen for a watch collector is to set up a Fix-it account. And just dump a few bucks in each paycheck, set aside for any watch maintenance. Just had my Daytona serviced, and realized that more complicated movements like the 4130 result in a more expensive service bill. If I wasn't under warranty, my movement service alone would be $1000.00. Hope for the best; prepare for the worst!

Thanks Kristofer, this is my thinking as well. Things are always more enjoyable when you're prepared!
