$$$ repair question please
Great forum. This is my first post. Wondering if anyone can help me. My wife has a 2 tone ladies rolex gold and silver oyster perpetual that was bought in 1988. We were away in the Bahamas and we went in ocean and wife noticed after she came out their was condensation on the face and watch wasnt working. We were told that she left the stem out and quote the watch is fried on the insides. We were quoted $ 1000.00 from a jeweler to repair the watch. The jeweler claims it is their cost. Any thoughts or suggestions
Many thanks |

i suggest bringing it to RSC rather than independent shops unless you know the repairer.
cost of repair is one. however, i rather trust the RSC to get it done unless i know the independent watch retailer |

I agree, bring it to RSC to bring it back to life esp if there is an RSC close to you.
The independent jeweller may also do not have access to Rolex gen parts so OEM parts may be used to replace the worn/broken parts.

If salt water has been in the watch for some time, you're counting down to disaster.
I think a thousand bucks to disassemble clean and oil (COA service), which is all it would have needed at that time, is excessive. You should take the watch in as soon as possible before any further corrosion can take place. There is a Rolex Service Center in New York....Any AD can send it in for you and I'll bet their cost will be half that. If you find a reliable watchmaker in your area (not usually a chain jeweler), I'll bet he would do it for a couple of hundred. A ladies DJ is worth a few grand so it would be well worth it to hurry. I think Larry is spot on. The longer you wait the more expensive it will be. Send it to RSC, it'll be good as new.

Got to agree with Larry on this, would suspect all thats needed is a clean and oil service but get it done quick.

Yep, take it to a RSC for sure.

Why on earth would you bump a 10 year old thread?
Are you sure? He might have moved in the last 10 years. Do you think it needs repaired again being 10 years ago?
