My father paid for all of our watches etc with it ! I asked but I am not allowed to post a pic of it. Amazing card though. You can purchase Houses, cars, planes . . . on it !

I have been to many events with family i.e. you get invited to a closed harrods just for black card holders, louis vuitton events, sailing and polo. ! Its great.

Every Month a new AMEX Black Magazine comes out and you can purchase and order things on that too.

we Had an AMEX platinum card but we were invited to have this around 3 years ago.

Merchants simply see it as a higher cost to them than a Visa or Mastercard. It is the ultimate self-stroking ego booster, if you need one.

I have a Platinum card and it has come in handy a few times. On time I needed a penguin the next day for a photo shoot (incidentally they rent for $1,000 a day, each). Another time I needed the Yellow Pages for Bangkok, Thailand. The concierge delivered both times.

They will also look for Daytonas and Milgausses for you.

You can buy a house, Ferrari or plane with any credit card, as long as you have the available credit and the seller is willing to part with a percentage for the credit card fees.

Here is a dirty little secret about Amex charge cards: The colors don't have anything to do with your spending limit. EVERYONE has a spending limit, which is a secret number that they won't really tell you. Many very wealthy people use the basic green version and can outspend members of the "black card club". The colors are simply an indicator of the benefits available with that particular card. The cards are geared to different spending profiles. Frequent travelers would get more out the Platinum card. Heavy shoppers would get more reward points from the Gold. I downgraded form Platty to Gold since I am not traveling much and don't like the new fees. The one time I used concierge I felt like I was dealing with a complete moron.

The funny thing is that many black card holders are small business owners who charge a ton on their card for business, but make less than $100K.

Anyway, there are other things in life to be impressed with.

And yes, I bought two of mine with a black Amex.

I know people who have it, mainly Americans (nobody really accepts AMEX in Canada at any place you might actually want to buy something). It is a status symbol, for whoever you might show your credit card to. But is it worth a one time fee of $5000 and then annual fees of $2500? No, not really. All of my credit cards are free and low interest (not that I ever carry a balance). Credit card companies make a killing off of just merchant fees (2 - 3%) every time your card is swiped so it makes no sense at all to pay for a card, especially if you spend in excess of $250,000 a year as I do for business, etc.

Actually as a small business, I found that the Plum card from AMEX is the best deal. 2% cash back every month, no exceptions!!

Wow, at this time this is a two page thread on credit cards. People wake up. This ain't 2007. I carry one card only for business travel expenses and that is all it is used for. Everything else $$$$$$$

I find this an impertinent question, to say the least. The persons that really own such a card are very unlikely to answer this question. I just don't understand.

Wanna know how good your credit is with AMEX?

Go get your card.

Now the first 4 digits starts with a 3. All Amex cards start with a 3.

My very first Amex started with 3735. Then my gold was 3728. Then my Platinum was 3715.

The lower the third and fourth numbers, the better credit you have with them.

35, 28, then 15. I had one merchant commend me on the 15, because apparently 12 is the best he had ever seen.

Now this may be all hogwash, and your credit when you get Amex will of course change over time, so it is not a good long term indicator.

This thread is inappropriate to say the least.

It's over now.
