New addition. Submariner 1680 with rare dial

I think Mike can appreciate this one. A ca. 1979 1680 with luminova dial and hands. It makes for an interesting combination.

And here's what it looks like at night! So cool.

It's a nice complement to my all-original 1680

How about this lume shot!!

Thanks for looking!

Beauty Will. All the warmth of vintage plus the functionality of modern. What a great daily wear.

Nicely done and some GREAT lume shots.

Thanks for showing Will.

This is the first 1680 I have seen with a luminova dial and hands. I notice only the word 'Swiss' is printed on the dial at 6 o'clock which is rare?

Does Rolex still have such dials available for replacement during service? If yes, would people recommend replacing a 1680 tritium dial with a luminova?

yes they have a full range of replacement dials now.
and no,I would never suggest changing them over unless you want to loose half of the value instantly!
you could buy a set and have a watchmaker put them on,but if you have Rolex do it they will seize your original set!!

As Steve said, these dials are still available. Personally I would NEVER trade an original 1680 dial/hands for luminova service replacements.

I recently bought this 1680 with the luminova dial/hands already in place. The price was right so I figured I'd add it to the collection.

I find it interesting that there are two versions of these white 1680 luminova service dials. One says "Swiss" at the bottom while the other says "Swiss - T < 25"

Jason, thanks. I saw that 1680 the other day and find it AMAZING with lack of minute track. I guess it was a proto-type. Extremely rare to say the least.

I´m not sure what's rare with that dial? That is the dial you got when you buy a 1680 dial
from a AD.

It have been rare with SWISS-T<25 at the botton like my 1675 Luminova.

Here is the kit.

But those dials will they not have for sale longer.

Your 1680 looks awesome and I like the bright white look.

Congrats.

Jocke
