Pre-owned GMT Master II - question

Hi,
I recently bought a pre-owned GMT Master II (Z serial) with box, paperwork and the original warranty paper with the serial, AD's store name, and original buyers info. Everything matches up on the case, and I dont see anything that leads me to believe it is not 100% authentic. However, I am still a bit skepitical. I paid $4,400, which seems inline for the year and how good of shape it is in.

Is there anything that I should be looking out for that I might be missing? The only scary thing that I can think of is that the original movements could have been swapped out for fakes or something. Thoughts?
Thanks

If you want to soothe your mind, have it checked and authenticated.

I agree. The only way to be 100% sure is to have it authenticated.

Congrats by the way!

Like the others have said, bring to a local Rolex watchmaker and have it opened up and pressure tested for piece of mind, would take less than 10mins.

Why on earth would you think that it's not legitimate...

And, why do you think that anybody would go through the trouble to put a fake movement in an otherwise perfectly good GMT....

In any event....check the hand stack...make sure that the hands are positioned properly and that the Mercedes hand "jumps" as it should, and the 24 hr hand is exactly 1/2 the speed of the main dial hand..

Nobody makes a fake that is put together and functions like a Rolex:

I agree, I just purchased a Y serial for $4300 so your price is right in line. Have you checked for the etched crown at 6pm? Look close its kinda hard to find.

Let any certified watchmaker open the case back and it would be pretty obvious !
Whenever I had my purchase from an AD ,I never bothered to authenticate the watch even on various occasions when I bought a Rolex watch from private sellers I always went with my experience and fortunately I never went wrong though I did open the case back long after the purchase .The whole experience regarding the Rolex watches come from the level of interest you keep in Rolex by various means which includes handling different models of Rolex and reading about the Rolex watches and the movements inside it .
Regards

Do your checking BEFORE purchase. Now all you can do is hold your breath and send it into an RSC.

Just take it to your local AD and have their watchmaker examine it.

+1

I see this on different types of message boards all over the internet, but can't figure out why people don't research before buying.

Easy...

If the hour hand "jumps", it is real. No fake can do that....

The only way to know for sure is to have a watchmaker remove the backing and take a look at the movement. They will know instantly. Good luck and congrats on the watch.

I'm with Larry on this one. Unless you bought it from a shady character I think you have no worries. I also agree that you should have worried before purchasing as well, but too late for that now.

As others have said, you'll have to take it to an AD to get it opened up and verified. But I have heard that some of the Asian street vendors have different grades of Folexes and will swap out the movements for some other inferior movement.
