Who owns birth year Rolex? This '63 GMT looks a bit rough, good deal or not?

Two questions:

1. Any TRFers out there that own a Rolex from your year of birth? If so, please post pics.

2. I was browsing the Bay and found this 1963 GMT. I was wondering what an expert thinks of the condition vs. price. How hard would it be to find an age appropriate SS oyster band for this watch? How much would that band cost (estimate)?

Thanks!

I was talking to a watchmaker this morning and he told me, a watch is only perfect once! My motto is, buy the best with what you have.

Can't comment on the price but that seller does not allow any returns under any circumstances. Make sure you check them out first.

It is a great looking vintage watch - the small triangle on the 4th hand is very unique.

Good luck!

For that kind of money I would hope for an original dial or one that had been replaced by Rolex. The 1675 is a handsome watch and there are better examples out there.

Looks pretty good to me. Inclosed minute track with dot is correct for the era. Sourcing a riveted bracelet can be done.

If the watch is in good working order that price is very much in line.

I think a birth year Rolex is very special. I am fortunate to have a Sub from my birth year. No pics at the moment (I still owe pics).

My personal opinion - take your time and check on the seller. I cannot emphasize that enough from my own personal experience.

I will say - Having Mike's endoresement of the piece in my opinion is a really important opinion to have and he gave you the "cheers" that's a good thing!

Anyway, definitely pursue your birth year Rolex - but, do not rush through it. Have some of the collectors here scan their resources - Buy the best that you possibly can - that is good advice that I got from many here on the forum. I say this because - I may have been able to buy better. No regrets... But, take some time and study it.

Good Luck and have fun!

Thsi Gmt is beautiful !
As Mike said you have to find a good rivet bracelet and change the plexi (service plexi on the sale).
So if I was you, I would buy it immediatly, and after will be looking for a beautiful Tudor sub from the same year or a 5513.
