114060 Check

Hi guys, new member here, thanks for having me :)

I just recently purchased my first Rolex (114060) from an AD but was looking at some videos to check out how good fakes have gotten and something stood out to me in this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_ZTqC2Yxxs

at ~3:47 it shows the proper spacing on the ft/meters line, particularly between the "300" and the "m". I looked at my newly acquired watch and realized my spacing was that of the fake in the video.. hm.

So next I started to compare my watch in any way possible without needing a magnification and also noticed the capitalized "E"s in "Oyster Perpetual" had the middle horizontal line of the "E" is also pitched toward the upper end.

I don't want to say I received a fake from the AD, but is it possible I'm just mistaken here or there's been a little change in the dial for more recent models?

https://www.bobswatches.com/no-date-...ex-114060.html Also on this link, the default image shows the larger spacing on the 300 and m, also the equal spacing E, but the other images on the left side bar show closer 300m and E with middle line pitched upward as well like mine.

First two pics below are taken from internet, second two are my watch.

Thanks!

I’m sorry to have to tell you this but you’re being very paranoid. The chances an AD sold you a fake is probably zero. You’re magnifying these pictures and finding minuscule issues that are frankly just tiny manufacturing flaws. The biggest misconception that people have is that everything Rolex is perfect. It isn’t. Let it go, enjoy the perfectly genuine watch you’ve bought.

Thanks for the reply and peace of mind!

I figured so, but also wanted to know if this is a change in dials for later 114060 models or I just have, as you would say, a flawed dial.

Also, the dial printing from Rolex evolves over time. There's actually a lot of variation.

OP, the best advice I can give you to fully enjoy your watch is to throw away your loupe and stop taking super zoom pictures of your watch. These are mass produced watches and there will be flaws. Unless the flaw is easily seen with the naked eye it is best not to go looking for one.

Rolex changed dial fonts and spacing many times in the past 10 years since the first ceramic releases

Heres a first no date sub from 2018 on chrono24 i clicked on. Same font spacing as yours. Rest is bad picture angle and lighting

Welcome to the forum.

On any given day when Rolex is stamping out dials for any model there are so many variables that we’d spend the rest of the year comparing ink and font differences even when the design of the original screens used to stamp the dial was unchanged.

Pigments, flow pressure, viscosity, humidity, temperature and base chemistry all affect the little things like which way the middle stroke of an “E” points North or South.

As much as Rolex controls these variables with great diligence, there will be x% of dials with variances. QC pulls the obvious errors.

But when one buyer puts a 10x-20x loupe to the dial they will begin to “see” things that aren’t there to see with the unaided eye.

Your AD doesn’t sell fakes - but they can’t be responsible for WIS induced loupe fever. There is no cure for that

This ^^^

OP, just spend some time over on the vintage forum and you’ll soon see that Rolex and dial printing variations have been going on since the beginning

Haha thanks for the kind words y’all :)

It’s my job to be contrarian and sometimes that flows over to my hobbies. If vintage is any indication, maybe I should hope my dial has some wonkey stuff on it!
