Icon5 GMT Master II // bezel lume (or lack thereof) question

Does anyone know why Rolex didn't put any lume on the rotating bezel of the GMT Master II?

I love my BLNR, but it seems like if this tool watch was truly meant to be used by pilots to keep track of multiple time zones while on long-haul flights it would only make sense to have lume on the 24-hour markers so that pilots can use the rotating bezel while flying at night.

I have been assuming that maybe it has something to do with the ceramic bezel, but Tudor found a way to add lume to the Pelagos bezel, and the Sub has lume on the bezel at the 12 o'clock position.

Would love to know the answer to this question.

I don’t have an answer but I believe the first gmts actually had lumed bezel and then they didn’t for decades after that. I’m guessing with the ceramic it will be hard to manufacture as well.

My thoughts are that the practical use versus the aesthetics just aren’t there. The platinum/gold inlay on the ceramic bezels are stunning. It would look a lot less attractive covered in lume. I think with technology these days there’s a slim chance that a pilot isn’t going to have a small cabin light to read his/her bezel.

The original 6542's bakelite bezel did have glowing, radium bezel numbers.
