Rolex Daydate 18238 Lapis Diamond Dial

Hi Everybody,

I am the current owner of this 18238 Daydate Rolex Lapis Lazuli Diamond Dial Watch. I was looking into original price of this watch from production, which was E (Summer 1990). I was wondering how much it would have been to upgrade the dial on this watch to the lapis dial currently shown? Also if the dial was only made for certain clients? How much would you estimate this watch is worth in the market, or an opinion do of how much someone would purchase it for? Also how much does the dial add in value? Working perfectly. No damage to dial at all. There is a small amount of stretch probably 85% left of life in the band. Original Clasp. I bought this watch several years ago from a reputable Jeweler in South Florida. Did not come with box or papers.

Thank you for your insight!

Even if you could give me an idea of how much the upgrade for the dial would have been in 1990 that would be great! I am trying to figure out how rare the dial is?

Also maybe how much you would say the watch is worth as a whole?

I don’t believe it was custom made or the dial was upgraded. It could b original from the beginning. Rolex did and still does offer exotic stone dials from time to time. They are very rare and much more expensive than regular dial. In today’s market, it should sell over $20k or more depending on the rarity of the stone.
