Vintage Glycine Airman Special from 1967
For sale is a vintage Glycine Airman Special that is all original and unpolished. The watch is in incredible condition for its age.
The Airman Special is the more rare version of the Airman, as it was special made in limited production for the US market, for USAF pilots. It was an altered version of the original Airman (with 25 jewels) and only had 17 jewels, allowing it to pass under the tariff bracket imposed on watch imports. The model reference number is 323.1119, and the serial number is 913522 - dating the watch to 1967. The movement is the A. Schild ref.1903 automatic movement. The back of the caseback is stamped "WATERPROOF INCABLOC SWISS STAINLESS STEEL AUTOMATIC" with the patent number "PAT 314050", reference number "323.1119", and the serial number "913522" stamped in the center. This can be seen in the picture below. This dual purpose 24 hour watch has simultaneous measurement of GMT and local time produced for Airline and USAF pilots. These Airman Special models became popular with both military and commercial pilots, worn by many USAF pilots during the Vietnam War. I've been timing the watch for the last week and it is telling perfect COSC time. $1,500 USD shipped. |
