Tudor BB GMT vs 58
Hi All,
Put a deposit down on a Tudor BB GMT a few months ago with an AD in Glasgow,Scotland. I have since made 2 payments towards it as well (they offered me 0% finance so took it, why not). I chose the GMT because its a nice looking watch, not too blingy but also stands out a little on the wrist. The watch was expected June, they pushed back to July, Now they can't tell me when its expected. They had 30 on the list and have since delivered 15 of them so I'm in the 2nd batch. This will be my last purchase for a few years now, Originally I planned to get the BB GMT to go with my Seamaster 300m and Rolex Datejust 36mm, Then I have a divewatch, GMT for travelling and Datejust for events. I plan then to buy a Rolex Submariner in black before I'm 40 (I'm 30 in December this year). Ideally I'd love something similar looking to a 6538 "Sean Connery". Last few days I have read about a few people who have placed orders for BB GMT but have since swapped for the BB 58 instead because they are turning up quicker. This got me thinking, the BB 58 is basically a modern version of the 6538 Submariner that I desire! Down sides are you loose GMT function and date function, so my question is, if my dealer was to allow me to, what would you do, hold out for the BB GMT (which could be here next week or next year) or swap for a BB 58 (which could be here anytime soon)? I'm still thinking the GMT but every now and again think actually 58.

I think you should stick to your guns and get the GMT. I would, however, tell your AD to get a move on.

Unfortunately my AD is about 6 hours from me, I'm in Southeastern England, or "the midlands" if your from London.
Need to win the lottery then I can have the GMT,58 and 6538 Rolex haha.

58... but no denying he gmt is better than this years BLRO from Rolex!!
I just think the gmt might make it to the 58 platform at some point. When it does it will be outstanding. Until then I will enjoy my older 16710 |

I would use the GMT feature as travel into Europe quite a bit. Thinking the BB 58 offers nothing at all over my Seamaster 300m

It sounds to me like you want the GMT, and have good use for its travel complication, but are starting to be swayed by others' opinions. Don't be.
Just take it one watch at a time...get the GMT, enjoy it, and then you've still got plenty of time to start your hunt for the sub. |

I just feel that the Black Bay series apart from the Fifty-Eight are too thick for my liking. So for that reason I'd go with the Fifty-Eight.

Any idea how thick a GMT is versus a Seamaster 300m? I've still not actually seen one in the flesh.

I've liked Tudor's Black Bays but the cases were just too thick fit my taste. I understand the new GMT and 58 are thinner though, any one care to compare case thickness with previous Black Bays.

I'm not sure why, but I want to say that the Tudor GMT uses the same case as the newest Black Bay line. Probably wrong on that though.

I have read that Black Bay 58 could take over a year. But the wait is worth it. I think its the best Black Bay ever.

I think the gmt is the same thickness as the standard black bay. There is chamfering on the bottom of the case which gives the visual impression of it wearing thinner.

Think I am going to stick with the GMT and perhaps get the BB 58 later on. The 58 as much as it looks like the 6538 I desire, it really offers nothing over my Omega Seamaster 300m.
The GMT obviously offers GMT.
