10 Year Old Sub for $3,900!! Unfortunately, yes.

Well it's me again. You know, that kid. I don't remember what his name is. But anyway. Well obviously it's summer vacation and it was a Saturday so while my mother and I were out I decided that I needed to go watch browsing. So we went to the store where I have bought my two Seiko's (high roller baby!) and I walk around to the watch cases to look at the Tag Heuers etc. and right there in the middle of the case is a SS Sub and a TT blue Sub. Since they aren't a Rolex AD and since these were in the green velvet boxes I immideatly knew these were not new. But being me I stood a drooled and tried them both on (the SS about 3 times ) and I looked at the price on the SS and it said $3,900! I asked John how old it was and he said about 10 years. He said it was a good deal considering the demand for them around here. I laughed so much in my head it was rediculous, but wanting a job there next summer I obviously agreed with him that it was a good price. I can't even believe they're trying to sell those for that much. They will normally give me about a 20% discount on whatever I want, but he said the Sub was in such high demand he can't move on the price. Still, I got to try them on. While there I also tried on some Tags. I've concluded my next watch will be the Tag Heuer Monaco, either on the blue croc. strap or SS bracelet. This will work good considering I'm trying to slowly climb the watch scale. Besides I think a Sub is best suited for when I graduate med school. Okay so I'm going into ninth grade, but I can wait............a really long time.

Agree with JJ even the rarer 16800 would retail for less than that.

Hang in there Tyler. It'll be worth the wait. Especially at that price for a used one.

Agree with everyone. At that price you can be into a new sub or some some nice vintage.

Tyler, you have something going for you. You know the real value of these watches and aren't ready to be swayed merely because it's your grail watch. That will stand you in very good stead when the time comes that you have the funds available to go for it.

So go for the Tag (which is a good watch in it's own right) and build your collection up to the SS Sub.

Hang in there, pal. Your time will come sooner than you think.

Tyler;
Your common sense and good judgement never cease to make me smile. Most ADs I know have truly rare watches in the safe, not in a Tag display case. If he thinks that piece is really worth anywhere near that kind of $$ why hasn't he sold it? At this time that hunk of metal is nothing more than slow moving inventory taking up space!

If you weren't so young, and me so old, I'd wait for you to become my doctor. But then again, you are certainly precocious and I'm not planning on going anywhere for a long while. Maybe I WILL wait.

Thanks for the comments guys. Correction, it is $3,800 but still that 100 bucks makes no difference. Wow Prince, you got a good deal on your TT. They had one in there too for about $6,800. To pull a Mr. T here, I pity the fool who buys those watches for that price!

Thanks, Tyler. Patience had a lot to do with it, and a genuinely nice original purchaser who was not concerned with making a killing, but needed the money. Like we always say, these deals and the watch you REALLY want are out there, and it will come to you when the time is right.

Cheers!
