The 116710 LN clasp
I always found the bracelet and clasp for the new watches and the 116710 an amazing work of art and engineering.
Found this schematic for the clasp and the description in the actual patent. Not sure I understand it all but the gist of the matter is that it all comes down to a spring housed in the clasp that holds down the hook end so as to not easily open. I think that's what gives it that satisfying 'click'. Read the patent if you dare. Link to the patent Link to the original page comparing the 116710 to 16710

The problem with the easylink is the single 5mm option. Too much for me.

Oh nice, stupid me thought there was actually a coiled spring inside. But Item #15 is just a thin piece of steel. 2 of them... in case one breaks so you still have a working clasp??

Actually there IS a coiled spring inside. Its not shown on that schematic.
Go to the patent link. Look at FIGURE 6, #36 AND #37. It shows a cylinder that houses the helical spring. Then read section 5 of the patient. I'll sum up the whole thing for you: The spring keeps part #33 pushed up in a counter-clockwise direction over lever 32 and the hook #33c engaged so it doesn't open and slip off your wrist.
